Summative assessment of progress   The goal of summative assessment is to gain an understanding of the progress your child has made. It also allows teachers to identify any gaps in skills and knowledge; these can then be bridged in post assessment teaching. Prior to a summative assessment, your child will be given at least a week to complete home-study; summative assessment dates will be recorded in student planners. Each assessment will have a grade (KS4 & KS5) or threshold (KS3) assigned to it.   Year 7 – 10 (where teaching time is 1 or 2 periods a week) Term 1 (15wks) = 2 formal assessment points Term 2 (12wks) = 1 formal assessment point Term 3 (12wks) = 1 formal assessment point Year 7 – 10 (where teaching time is 3 periods or more a week) Term 1 (15wks) = 2 formal assessment points Term 2 (12wks) Term 3 (12wks)    Year 11 Term 2 (12wks) = 2 formal assessment points Term 3 (12wks) = Examinations Year 12 &13 Term 1 (15wks) = 4 formal assessment points Term 2 (12wks) = 4 formal assessment points Term 3 (12wks) = 4 formal assessment points (Year 12) and Summer Examinations (Year 13) Summative assessment of progress Summative assessment date recorded in student planners Home study supported by guided practice materials In-class deliberate practice and retrieval tasks Summative assessment Post assessment gap teaching 3 formal assessment points over the 2 terms
