Bracebridge Detachment Policing Gravenhurst

Ontario Provincial Police Founded in 1909. Over 5,800 uniformed officers, 2,400 civilian employees and 830 Auxiliary officers. General Headquarters in Orillia, over 160 detachments.

Bracebridge Detachment Detachment in Bracebridge, sub-offices in Gravenhurst and Bala. Provides policing services to Gravenhurst, Bracebridge, Muskoka Lakes and part of Georgian Bay Township, Wahta First Nation, Moose Deer Point First Nation. 61 officers, 5 civilians. Dispatched from Provincial Communications Centre – Orillia.

Police Services Act Section 4(2) Core police services Adequate and effective police services must include, at a minimum, all of the following police services: 1. Crime prevention. 2. Law enforcement. 3. Assistance to victims of crime. 4. Public order maintenance. 5. Emergency response. 

Police Services Act Ontario Provincial Police Section 5.1 – in the absence of any other policing service, the OPP shall provide policing services. Section 10 – contract signed between the municipality(ies) and the OPP for policing services.

Focus on the Big 4 causal factors of collisions, injuries and fatalities: Impaired Driving Distracted Driving Lack of Seatbelt Use Aggressive Driving

Detachment Action Plan - Priorities Other Policing Priorities Mental Health Continue collaborating for an enhanced police response to persons experiencing a mental health crisis Reduce Unnecessary Calls For Service Partner to reduce the impact/risk/frequency of false alarms and 911 calls.
