College & Career Readiness Class of 2022
Now that you’re settling into your freshman year, here are some things to get you on track for college and your future...
Why Do Grades Matter? Colleges look at your GPA as a major data point for admission. Work hard on your academics, grade point average, homework, and semester exams. Develop good study habits for homework and time management skills. Visit the Freshman Tutoring Center in SAGE 2 before school, during lunch, or after school.
Why Join Activities? Colleges are looking for involved students! Join extracurricular activities and begin to make a resume of your activities. This will be of great use for you when starting to apply for college admissions as well as jobs. We have over 130 clubs and organizations here at Bowie! Make new friends with similar interests.
Planning ahead You have developed (or will be developing) a 4-year plan with your counselor team. Use this opportunity to discover great courses that work with your goals and dreams. When planning your schedule in the future, make sure that you are enrolling in challenging and rigorous classes. A wide variety of advanced courses are available to you including AP, ACC Dual Enrollment, UT OnRamps, etc.
Start Considering Career Options Start thinking about your career goals and talk to people in that field - ask lots of questions! Tour colleges during Spring Break or in the summer. Colleges have special events for high school students. Visit the College & Career center located in the back of the library. Our college & career counselor, Ms. Valverde, can help you with any questions. www.onetonline.org www.bls.gov/ooh www.bigfuture.collegeboard.org www.ownyourownfuture.com
