Murine aortic rings were incubated in Dulbecco’s modified eagle medium (DMEM), osteogenic medium (OM), with or without red blood cell (RBC) membranes (0.5%, 1.0%, or 2.0% of total RBC membrane protein) for 7 days. Aortic rings were embedded in paraffin and 5 μm-thick cross sections stained with Alizarin red (red signal). Mouse bone was used as positive control.
