2012 PSAE Test Administration Training Calculators May only be used on the Math portion of the test Allowed by ACT but not required All questions can be answered without the use of a calculator School decision: For uniform testing practices, either the school gives calculators to all students or students are expected to provide their own calculator If school provides calculators to students – distribute before testing begins as students are being admitted to the test room Calculators cannot be shared Calculator requirements At least 4 function with square root Calculators must have the memory cleared before and after testing See Prohibited list in Administration Manual PreACT Admin Manual p. 10 - 11

Testing Staff Qualifications – for all positions Proficient in English Experienced in testing and measurement A staff member of the school district Not a relative or guardian of an examinee in their assigned room Not a private consultant or individual tutor of any examinee in their assigned room PreACT Admin Manual p. 4 - 6

Room Supervisor Read and understand the Administration Manual and Supplement Attend training and briefing session at school Serve in one room during entire session Identify and admit each student into the testing room Direct students to specific, assigned seats Account for test materials before, during, and after testing Read test instructions (utilize supplemental instructions) Time each test accurately Monitor students and materials at all times Complete all required documentation Document and report any irregularities to STC PreACT Admin Manual p. 4 - 5

2012 PSAE Test Administration Training Testing Environment Desks arranged in straight rows and columns so that students are three feet apart shoulder-to-shoulder and head-to-head Wall clock if possible Bulletin boards covered All test taking strategies and content material covered Maps and periodic tables do not need to be covered Comfortable temperature and lighting Limited distractions Alarms and bells turned off Large Scale Administrations Prohibited Writing surfaces large enough to accommodate all student materials PreACT Admin Manual p. 8 - 9

2012 PSAE Test Administration Training Test Day Procedures Identify and admit students Utilize student ID cards and roster to confirm students Direct students to seats Alphabetical (Left to right and front to back) Utilize PreACT Seating Diagram on page 51 No late arrivals Other than permitted calculators, students may not have in their possession a cell phone or any electronic device (including smart watches and fitness bands) at any time during testing, including breaks Student will be removed from testing Answer folder will be voided PreACT Admin Manual p. 18, 46

2012 PSAE Test Administration Training Exact Timing of Tests Use more than one timepiece (not a cell phone) Time each room individually No “central” timing Provide 5-minutes remaining reminders (in script) Post Start and Stop times and or time allowed for each test on the board Record times in the Administration Manual The full time allotted for each section must be given to all students regardless of students finishing early PreACT Admin Manual p. 19

2012 PSAE Test Administration Training Irregularities Room Supervisors should report all irregularities to STC using PreACT Testing Irregularity Report All Irregularities must also be reported in OTISS If a student answer folder is VOIDED it should remain at the school, in the School Test Coordinator’s testing files All completed ACT Testing Irregularity Reports should be submitted to ACT. Retain a copy for your records Attach any defective materials to the irregularity report PreACT Admin Manual p. 19 - 21

2012 PSAE Test Administration Training Post-Test Room Supervisor’s Responsibilities Checklist on page 40 Account for all test booklets, and answer folders before dismissing students Verify you have an answer folder for each student who tested (transcribe for any student with approved alternate mode of response) Check answer folders to ensure they are correctly marked and student information is entered on the folder Complete the irregularity report (if applicable) Return materials to School Testing Coordinator PreACT Admin Manual p. 40

Accommodated Testing Eligibility Students must have a CURRENT IEP, 504, EL, or Transitory Impairment plan on test day EL students must score below a 5.0 on the reading subtest of WIDA Screener or ACCESS to qualify for accommodations Accommodation(s) must be routinely used during instruction to be eligible for use on assessments PreACT Admin Manual p. 14

Test Read Aloud (computer) Implemented with audio USB Students using audio USBs can test as a group provided they have individual head phones and can control the progress of the USB on their own Students may replay any portion of the test being worked on as many times as necessary, within the approved time limits Students may be given up to 120 minutes to complete Test 1 and up to 90 minutes to complete each of the other three tests Before test day, test the USBs to make sure that they work properly with your equipment PreACT Admin Manual p. 17

Large Print Implemented with Large Print Test Book and Large Print Response Worksheet 18 point font Student responses must be transferred on to a regular scoreable answer folder Ensure that seating does not allow other students to see student’s responses during the test session PreACT Admin Manual p. 15 - 16

North Carolina Testing Code of Ethics Reporting North Carolina Testing Code of Ethics Reports are typically mailed to schools 5-10 days after Answer Folders are received by ACT Protect confidentiality of students at all times Return student reports with test books Student scores may only be disclosed to persons with legitimate need (ex. Parents or receiving school) Student scores CANNOT be sent via email If scores need to be sent between schools (student transfers from one school to another), a fax may be sent after verifying the receiving person is at the fax machine
