Illinois NW NE Illinois was the 21st state in the USA. It became a state on December 3, 1818. State Abbreviation - IL State Capital – Springfield Largest City – Chicago Area – 57,918 miles (Illinois is the 25th largest state) Population – 12,882,135 (Illinois is the 5th most populated state) Name for Residents – Illinoisans Major Industries – Agriculture (corn, soybeans, wheat), cattle, manufacturing, mining Major Rivers – Mississippi River, Ohio River, Illinois River, Wabash River Highest Point – Charles Mound (1,235 ft. above sea level) Bordering States – Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin Bordering Body of Water – Lake Michigan SW SE

County Map of Illinois A county map is a map that divides an area into different counties. A county is a region created for the purpose of local government. Each county has its own set of rules and government. There are 102 counties in the State of Illinois. Most counties in Illinois were named after early American leaders and soldiers as well as Native American Tribes. Some are also named after natural features or counties in other states. Physical Map of Illinois A physical map focuses on geography of the area and the landforms will be highlighted on the map. Physical maps will show mountains, valleys, rivers, lakes, and plains in an area. Typical colors are blues, greens and browns. Many rivers, mountains and lake names will also be on the map.

Precipitation Map of Illinois A precipitation map is a type of weather informational map that graph and shows the amount of precipitation in a state or area. Precipitation is any form of moisture that falls out of clouds—snow, rain, hail, sleet or freezing rain. Usually precipitation maps show precipitation amounts measured in inches.

Agriculture Map of Illinois An agriculture map shows the agriculture of a certain area or region. Agriculture is another word for farming. It includes both growing and harvesting crops and raising animals, or livestock. Agriculture provides the food and many raw materials that humans and domesticated animals need to survive.

Illinois Land Use Map A land Use Map identifies parts of a state and what the land is primarily used for in that particular area. This Illinois Land Use Map shows the different uses of the land in regards to the economy of Illinois. Economy refers to the money and resources of an area in terms of production of goods and services (the way an area makes money for the people).
