Key questions: What is critical and creative thinking? Which steps can you take to solve problems?

Key words: Critical thinking: evaluation or judging of ideas. Creative thinking: generation, production and formation of new ideas; thinking in different ways; bring ongewone of ander idees na vore. Problem solving: offer solutions

Critical thinking You evaluate and judge everything You ask questions about what you see, read or hear. Is it a fact? Is it a conviction? Is it a generalization? Is it important or key information? Who said or wrote it? When was it written or said?

Creative thinking Produce new ideas or solutions You can find many possible solutions for many problems. Teach yourself to think creatively: Brainstorm ideas. Draw pictures Ask yourself questions. Ask one question repeatedly and try to give a different answer every time.

Creative thinkers are: Curious Want to know the reasons behind decisions, solutions, events or facts Ask many questions See a need for improvement Believe most things have solutions

Don’t judge new ideas as funny or weird. Find problem solving interesting and challenging. Aren’t afraid of making mistakes. Don’t easily give up and keep on trying.

Summary Critical thinking means you evaluate and judge ideas. You are not biased. You askquestions about what you read, hear or see. Creative thinking generates, produces and forms new ideas. To be able to solve problems you have to be able to think critically and creatively.
