K ENT S G RANT P ROPOSAL Submitted under track 1 Originally wanted to work with Education in a Democratic Society ~ there were issues! Revised based on feedback from faculty and department chair Final proposal includes all TAG courses 2 workshops for faculty (August & December 2006) Faculty were awarded a $200 stipend for attending We also fed them!

F IRST W ORKSHOP A UGUST faculty members attended Introduced the concept of information literacy Examined syllabi to find assignments where information literacy was already in place.

W HAT W E L EARNED F ROM T HE F IRST W ORKSHOP Communication is key What they covered, types of assignment Issues they had with students Faculty were unaware that the library would provide instruction for their students Prior to this meeting the librarian had only conducted 1 class for undergraduate teacher ed students!

F ALL 2006 L IBRARY I NSTRUCTION Be careful what you wish for! 27 in class sessions were taught 512 students enrolled in those 27 classes Faculty were very positive and happy Issues with the instruction TAG courses arent sequenced A lot of information was repetitive

Move to a workshop format instead of in class instruction? What to do about students who have already had instruction? What topics should be covered?

W HERE W E A RE T ODAY Spring 2009 participation approximately 153 students Testing in WebCT with quizzing Total number of participating students since spring ,081 (many students have completed all the workshops) Assessment?

I SSUES W E E NCOUNTERED With faculty Not assigning specific workshops Not handing out instruction sheet Not allowing the TAG courses to be sequenced With students Complaints about out of class work Complaints about online system Complaints on having to repeat workshops How did we handle these?

W HAT D OES THE F UTURE H OLD ? For Fall 2009 all online modules will be embedded into WebCT with quizzing. Over the summer more interactivity will be incorporated into the modules New instruction program for Orientation courses will impact this project.
