Presentation transcript:

Colossians 2: 6-15

“You started with Christ. In Verse 6, Paul urges the Colossians to “live/walk” out their faith based on the founder of it… Jesus Christ; not on some other new teaching that was being offered up to them by the false teachers and Gnostics amongst them. “You started with Christ. Continue with Christ.”

Colossians 2: 6-7 6  “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in Him, 7 rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”

has a once-and-for-all meaning behind it. Christians are not The word “rooted” has a once-and-for-all meaning behind it. Christians are not to be tumbleweeds that are blown here-and-there by various teachings; or “transplants” that just move to different soils.

Throughout Paul’s letters to churches, he uses the picture of the Church being a building that IS (in the present tense) being built up. After we are saved, we are added in…and then continue to grow.

the Colossians to be “strengthened When Paul urges the Colossians to be “strengthened in the faith as they were taught,” this can best apply to us in terms of our study and application of Scripture during times of difficulty.

“Let us rejoice in the Lord always “Let us rejoice in the Lord always. Let us show to the world that we are a happy and blessed people and thus induce them to exclaim, “We will go with you for we have heard that God is with you.” - Charles Spurgeon

need for the Colossians In Verse 8, Paul reaffirms the need for the Colossians to be on guard against the false teachers in their midst that wish to “take them captive” and anchor their lives to other things; apart from Jesus Christ.

Colossians 2: 9-10 9 “For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10 and you have been given fullness in Christ. (you have been made complete in Christ) He is the head over every power and authority.”

he is born complete in Christ. “When a person is born again into the family of God, he is born complete in Christ. His spiritual growth is not by addition, but by nutrition.” - Warren Wiersbe

What would this mean for us, those we love, and those we come into contact with throughout our days if we actually believed this? “I am complete. I need nothing, but Jesus.”
