Presentation transcript:

Chapter 1-3: Tools & Measurement Technology - the application of science for practical purposes. -the use of tools, machines, materials, and processes to meet human needs.

Compound Light Microscope - an instrument that magnifies small objects so that can be seen easily by using two or more lenses. Electron Microscope - a microscope that focuses a beam of electrons to magnify objects.

Area - a measure of the size of a surface or a region Area - a measure of the size of a surface or a region. Volume - a measure of the size of a body or region in 3-dimensional space. - a measure of something’s size in 3-dimensional space.

Mass - a measure of the amount of matter in an object Mass - a measure of the amount of matter in an object. - the amount of matter in something. Weight - a measure of the gravitational force exerted on an object; - its value can change w/ the location of the object in the universe.

Temperature - a measure of how hot (or cold) something is; specifically, a measure of the average kinetic energy of the particles in an object. the amount of energy in matter.

International System of Units (SI): - help scientists share and compare their work. they are based on the number 10 Computer is used to solve a complex mathematical problem.

Scanning Electron Microscope – technology used to produce a 3-D image of a tiny living organism.
