7th Annual Week of the Family Good morning Mayor Crotty, Board of County Commissioners, County Comptroller Martha Haynie, and County Administrator Ajit LAL-SHAN-DONIE. It is my pleasure to stand before you today, on behalf of the Week of the Family Committee chaired by Mrs. Donna Parker. As we celebrate Orange County’s 7th Annual Week of the Family, this week serves to reaffirm the importance of all families – and the strength and support they provide to communities. 7th Annual Week of the Family

7th Annual Week of the Family Celebrating Orange County’s Families October 31 - November 7, 2009 At the Citizens’ Commission for Children, we celebrate families in our community year round, and we are delighted to be a part of this worthy endeavor. We especially appreciate your willingness to support this effort by proclaiming October 31 thru November 7, 2009 as Orange County Week of the Family. On the state level, Governor Charlie Christ also issued a proclamation recognizing this special week. Mission Statement To strengthen family relationships through education, healthy activities, fitness and community service.

Please visit the Week of the Family Web site, as you see listed here on the screen, for a Calendar of Events and comprehensive details on this celebration. This year’s theme is “An Evening at Home, Starring the Family” and the service project is “Heart & Sole.” http://www.weekofthefamily.org/

2009 Service Project Heart and Sole is the 2009 Week of the Family service project. Each year the committee spearheads a different service project to help children and families in need. The goal is to collect as many new sneakers as possible for elementary-aged children, all of which will be donated to the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida. So, if you haven’t already, get to your local Fire Station in Orange County to contribute to the effort of “Helping Kids, One Pair of Shoes At a Time.”

7th Annual Week of the Family PROCLAIMING October 31 - November 7, 2009 as Orange County’s 7th Annual Week of the Family At this time, the proclamation will be read by Mr. Steve Triggs. {STEVE READS PROCLAMATION} Thank you Steve! And now to accept the proclamation, I am pleased to introduce Mrs. Donna Parker and the entire Week of the Family Committee, who have been extremely instrumental in planning this year’s Week of the Family events for Orange County. As Mrs. Parker comes forward to accept the proclamation, the Week of the Family committee would like to acknowledge it’s selection for this year’s Senator Paula Hawkins Family Service Award.

Honoring Jennifer Joseph: Recipient of 4th Annual Senator Paula Hawkins Family Service Award Mrs. Jennifer Joseph is this year’s recipient of the 4th Annual Senator Paula Hawkins Family Service Award. She unfortunately could not be with us today due to a prior engagement and will officially be presented with her award at a later date. But, the committee is proud to honor Jenny for her dedicated service. Jenny is very deserving of this honor and we thank her for her service to our community. {APPLAUSE} At this time, Mrs. Donna Parker will accept the proclamation to conclude our presentation.

THANK YOU! Thank you and we encourage each of you to participate in the many fun activities and projects this week has to offer!
