With a view to prepare students for PISA 2021, a few activities (VIII to X ) will be administered in all the concerned schools across the length and breadth of India, throughout the session 2019- 20.

LEVEL – 1 Types of Activities: Easy and familiar words (Words used in text books ) LEVEL – 2 Types of Activities: Words beyond text books (words from different sources like newspapers, magazines, media & other books) LEVEL – 3 words beyond text books with difficulty level higher than level 2

Improving Logical Thinking Ability Puzzles and Riddles Improving Logical Thinking Ability Question/ Activity Types Sudoku Kakuro Crosswords Word Search At Three Levels In ascending order of difficulty

LEVEL – 1 The activities in this level are with many clues so that they are easy to solve. The words in Word Search are interdisciplinary (based on Mathematics, Science and English), and textbook based. LEVEL – 2 The activities in this level are interdisciplinary, comparatively more difficult, and with fewer hints. The grids of Sudoku and Kakuro are slightly more complex and challenging. Crosswords take place of word search. LEVEL – 3 The grids of Sudoku and Kakuro are complex, with minimal hints. It aims at making children adept at solving puzzles requiring high order thinking skills. Crossword also becomes more challenging at this level.

Enhancing Communication/Oratorical skills, Fluency and Self-Confidence Gift of the Gab Enhancing Communication/Oratorical skills, Fluency and Self-Confidence Activity Types Level 1- Elocution Level 2- Debate and Group Discussion Level 3- Just a Minute Sessions (JAM)

LEVEL – 1 Elocution (topics which require some research/ collection of facts etc.) Topics have been provided in the booklet and have to be given to the students 2 days in advance. LEVEL – 2 Debate / Group discussion on topics related to current events, social issues, solutions etc. LEVEL – 3 Extempore – Just a minute ( JAM)- 60 sec to prepare & 60 seconds to present

Let’s Find and Analyze Task Types Enhancing Skills of Communication Level 1- Guided survey within the school campus Level 2- Guided survey within the the community Level 3- Preparing own survey questionnaire and implementing it Enhancing Skills of Communication Critical Thinking Interpretation & Presentation Observation and Classification Prioritisation

LEVEL – 1 This exercise requires pair work. The class will be divided in small teams of two students each who will take up survey on water, electricity, health audit of the students in the school, etc. The survey will be limited to the school campus. LEVEL – 2 This level requires students to work individually, within community & neighborhood and take up survey on areas like consumption of fuel- LPG/Petrol, Diesel etc. water, electricity, and other such topics. LEVEL – 3 Preparing a questionnaire defining parameters that can be taken up for audit. The students will be required to prepare their own questionnaire to conduct a real time survey. The questionnaire should be relevant to the topic chosen by the student.

Data Interpretation Enhancing Skill to make sense of numerical data collected, analysed and presented in different forms

LEVEL – 1 Interpretation of bar graphs, pie charts, ogives, histograms LEVEL – 2 Interpretation of data given in charts LEVEL – 3 A situation will be given to the students and they will be asked to present the data graphically.

Reading Skills Developing comprehension skills, using and reflecting on written texts to achieve goals, develop knowledge & potential, and participate in society Question Types Continuous, non-continuous , and multiple texts Description, narration, exposition, argumentation, instruction and transaction

LEVEL 1 Level 1 aims at enabling students to process text, understand its meaning, locate information and develop interpretational skills. LEVEL 2 Level 2 aims at developing the students’ ability of discriminating among skimming, scanning and intensive reading. LEVEL 3 Level 3 enables students to stretch their limit to read and understand longer pieces of writing.
