Defense of Other Teams Centre Free Pass – The W G The W should stay within the space between the hockey dots just outside the blue line … no wider Key is to block any ring from making it into out zone – don’t worry about following players – the main focus is on where the ring goes. The only place the other team should be able to pass is to a defense player outside the free pass circle. Once the do that the Forwards should press the ring carrier. C D F

Free Pass Play – Their End – Play Banana Low Defense C F High Defense Low Forward D G F Banana – Centre calls out Banana and a number 1,2, 3 or 4 Low Defense and both Forwards skate toward the ringette line: If Banana 1 was called ring is passed sideways to the Low Defense and Low Forward stops at the ringette line If Banana 2 was called ring is passed sideways to the Low Forward and High Forward stops at the ringette line If Banana 3 was called ring is passed sideways to the High Forward and Low Forward stops at the ringette line If Banana 4 was called Centre shoots on net and Low Defense stops at the ringette line High Forward

Defending Their Free Pass – Our Zone Low Forward F C D D D Low Forward High Defense C G D F In our Zone: Goalie comes out to the top of the crease to cut down the angle in case their centre shots Our Defense stand on each side of the Goalie, just outside the crease. They do not block the Goalie. Our Centre stands in the passing lane in front of the net Our Low Forward shadows their Low Defense Our High Forward is at centre ice waiting for the breakout to begin and to skate toward the play – doing the “J” to the appropriate side F High Forward

Breakout Play - Dalmatian F Low Forward G C F High Forward One Defense to the corner Second Defense curls behind net – skating hard Centre to other corner High Forward does the J to the side the ring is being played to Low Forward doesn’t leave zone until ring carrier reaches the ringette line Goalie throws to: Defense in the corner Drops ring to Defense coming around the net Centre in the other corner Low Forward at the ringette line D

Breakout Play - Beagle D F G C F D High Forward Low Forward G C F High Forward Defense to the corners – Centre stays in front High Forward does the J to the side the ring is being played to Low Forward doesn’t leave zone until ring carrier reaches the ringette line Goalie throws to: Defense in the corner Low Forward at the ringette line D

Drop Pass/ Cycle – Anywhere in the Zone High Defense F G Ring Carrier (could be a Forward, Centre or Low Defense) always on the inside – no matter where on the ice the cycle starts Ring Receiver (could be a Forward, Centre or Low Defense) always on the outside – no matter where on the ice the cycle starts Ring Carrier can exit zone (over ringette line) and drop to Low Defense going the other way who would enter the zone once they have the ring. Original Ring Carrier stays outside the zone F D Low Defense
