To Kill A Mockingbird Harper Lee N5 Critical Essay Planning A Theme Essay To Kill A Mockingbird Harper Lee N5 Critical Essay

Theme Q Choose a novel or short story or work of non-fiction which explores an important theme. By referring to appropriate techniques, show how the author has explored this theme.

Choosing Quotes For this plan, I have chosen quotations that track the theme effectively throughout the novel chronologically I have also included headings for each main paragraph, highlight what “appropriate technique” is used in each paragraph

Introduction Plan Remember-you can plan for your introduction in the same way for each essay-up to a point! Your TITLE, AUTHOR and SUMMARY section can stay the same-your TASK and EXPLAIN TECHNIQUE section needs to change, however!

Introduction Plan T-title A-author S-summary (setting-time and place, brief plot overview, mention of key characters) T-task (what is key theme explored, briefly explain how shown-Maycomb, court case) E-explain techniques (this theme is explored through Lee’s use of...)

MP1-Characterisation Point-Firstly, Lee uses characterisation to introduce the key theme of prejudice. Context-beginning of novel, Atticus explains to Scout about how to understand others better:   Quotation “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view—” “Sir?” “—until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.” (Chapter 2) Explanation Moral advice gives initial insight into Atticus’ character and role in novel as moral compass Simple wisdom demonstrates his lack of prejudice and sympathetic nature Atticus’ views contrast with the close-minded nature of the community, foreshadowing the uphill battle he will face against Maycomb’s values Link-Atticus’ lessons to his children throughout novel act as Lee’s voice within the novel, extolling importance of reserving judgement

Planning Finish paragraph planning for theme essay Wednesday-timed theme essay with notes in class
