Foreshadow Literary term

Foreshadow the use of words, phrases, actions, symbols and hints that set the stage for a story to unfold give the reader a hint of something that is going to happen

Examples The killing of Candy's old dog points to the killing of Lennie the author uses the words heart trouble to describe the main character's fragile condition. However, these words point to the story's ending, in which the main character dies from shock when she sees her husband Throughout the play both Romeo and Juliet constantly refer to death, murder and suicide
