Figure 1 Medium-power photograph of the liver showing severe active hepatitis with marked portal inflammation, consisting of lymphocytes, plasma cells, and neutrophils. The portal tracts also show bile ductular proliferation, piecemeal necrosis, and hepatocyte loss in the periportal and lobular region. In other areas, there was severe bridging necrosis.
