DATES Graduation is JUNE 4, 2019 at 7:00 pm Graduation Practice will be that morning (MANDATORY) Baccalaureate Service- Sunday June 2, 2019 at 7:00pm (Practice is MANDATORY if you plan to attend) Class Night- June 3, 2019 at 6:00pm (Practice is MANDATORY if you plan to attend)

Get Ready! ….Be at SCHOOL! Plan Be punctual with deadlines Be Persistent Do not PROCRASTINATE! Pay attention to absences (5 in semester, 10 in yearlong). Make up time will start in the spring and there is a fee with it. An FA(Failed Due to Attendance)is factored in the GPA as a 50 on student transcript. Do not let absences be an issue for you this year.
College Application Day September 6th This day is intended encourage your student get started or finish up college applications sooner rather than later. It is your child’s responsibility to make sure their application (and supporting documentation) is submitted. Each student will have up to 45 minutes in the computer lab to start and/or finish application(s). College representatives will be on site to assist. Some colleges (not all) will waive the application fee if submitted during College Application Day.
Senior College FaIR Seniors will sign up to go with me to Newberry High on OCTOBER 22th from 10:00-12:00. This is an opportunity for them to learn more about a large variety of colleges and universities.
Senior Job Fair In the Spring (usually in April) For part-time or full-time employment upon graduation Will meet with a large variety of employers in Newberry County and all surrounding areas (including Greenwood County) REQUIREMENTS: good attendance and discipline to be able to attend. Why? Your attendance and attitude matter in the workforce!
Financial Aid (FAFSA) OCTOBER 1st PARENTS!!!!!! FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) Completing the FAFSA is the first step toward receiving federal aid for college. More than $150 billion in grants, work-study funds, and loans are available, but you must complete them FAFSA to see if you can receive any of that money. You will have to complete the FAFSA every year that you are in college. Apply EARLY because some funds are on a first come first serve basis. You can apply between October 1, 2018 & June 30, 2019.
Completing the fafsa Create a FSA ID username & password at least one week before you plan to complete the FAFSA. Go to fsaid.ed.gov to create this username & password Student and one parent will need a username & password To complete the form you will need the following information: FSA username & password (see above) Tax returns Savings & checking amounts Investment amounts: Includes real estate (other than the home you reside), stocks, bonds, 529 plans, etc. Many college's have a March 1st deadline and begin designating funds.
Exit IGP meetings Exit Meetings (Months of September/October) Student should have the following in mind prior to/during our meeting: Career Goal Associated Majors (if college bound) 3 Colleges or Career (workforce) In Mind Realistic expectations
SAT and ACT WWW.COLLEGE BOARD.ORG WWW.ACT.ORG SAT sign up It is the student and parent’s responsibility to sign up. I do not have access to student accounts. WWW.ACT.ORG Students will need their ACT ID from me if they took it 11th grade with us ACT/SAT is for 4 year colleges. 2 year and tech schools have their own placement testing-ACT /SAT not required. You are responsible for sending your ACT/SAT and AP scores to colleges directly through your ACT/SAT/AP account. Colleges will not accept scores from high schools or from you. NCAA must receive scores directly as well.
South Carolina Scholarship Requirements Be SC Resident Be a US Citizen Be enrolled as a degree seeking student at an eligible SC private /public institution Certify that he/she has never been convicted of any felony and has not been convicted of any second or subsequent alcohol or drug related misdemeanors. Not in default of any state or federal loans See handout for state scholarship specifics.
Scholarships Below are state scholarships based on your academic performance. Students do not have to apply for these. They are awarded “automatically” by the college/university if you qualify. Prospective College Athletes Must register with NCAA clearinghouse (https://web3.ncaa.org/ecwr3/) SEND ACT/SAT scores directly to them (9999) Email or call Guidance to send a transcript If you have questions see Coach Addis or Mrs. Jenkins
Military Military recruiters make campus visits during lunch period Sign up to take the ASVAB Let us know of your interest so we can put you in touch with recruiters. If you do not want your address shared with military recruiters, fill out the OPT-OUT form in your packet and return to me
Jostens Required: Cap, Gown, Tassel, Diploma Cover Order early because the price will increase on the basic package the closer we get to graduation. You are not required to purchase anything outside of the items listed above. DEADLINE to pay balance in full is MARCH 1st.

What to dO Seniors and Parents Sign up for REMIND101 Check your school email for update's and new opportunities as they become available. Use the parent portal account--Load the App to your phone Students--Look and listen daily for announcements. Check the school webpage and Facebook page for updates BE AWARE of deadlines!!!
