Purposes of Presentation  Define e- research and search engine.  Outline the importance of search engine.  Classify the search engine.  List the search categories and file extension.  Use and practice some search engine.

Introduction to e-research  By electronic resources, we usually mean those which can be accessed by a computer in particular, Via , CD-ROM, or more commonly, via the World Wide Web.  E- research is a concept of a word which has come into vogue in academic research circles since Fundamentally, it is collaborative and interaction research made possible by the internet and data computational grids. E-research is a paradigm shift that is changing the way that research is conducted. (  Search engine is tools, which help’s in retrieving information from the internet.  A place on the net, where one goes to find sites abuts specific information.

History of Search engine The first tool used for searching in the internet was Archie in 1990 by Elan Emtag. In 1991, Verconica and Gughead introduced. In 1993, W3 Catalog was the first web primitive search engine lunched.

Importance of search engine Millions of people around the world using search engine everyday. The following are the some importance's of search engine.  Search engines are important for generating traffic to our site.  Find products, services, and information that we are looking for.  Expend knowledge essay.  Save time, effort and money.  Store information long time.  Features can change very fast.  Anybody can publish anything.  Provide different kind of search facilities e.g. image, files, news, videos, maps etc.

Type of search engine. Crawler based: these types of search engines use a “Spider” or “Crawler” to search the internet. Google and yahoo are the example of Crawler search engine. Such engines are useful when we have search a specific topic. Directories: Directories depend on human editors to create their listing or data base. E.g. Yahoo directories, Open directories and look smart are few examples. Human power directories are good when we are interested in general topic of search. Hybrid Search engine: Such engine use both “Crawler” and “Directory based” search to obtain the result e.g. Google.com, Yahoo.com Meta Search engine: In such engine search result returned from all the search engines, can be integrated, duplicate can be eliminated and additional features as clustering by subjects within the search results can be implicated e.g. Dogpile, Mata crawler.

Conclusion  Search engines are not mechanical engines in common sense, these are tools which helps sharing information and search queries through internet.  Since 1990, search engines are came into practice.  Search engines are very useful in e-communication.  Search engines are based on four categories, crawler based, Directories based, Hybrid, and meta search based.  There are so many types of search engines in practice for different purpose
