Persuasive Research Check in Persuasive Research- in computer lab Counter Argument Intro paragraph Conclusion paragraph

Paragraph format: USE this format FOR Counter argument paragraph too You may download this from Mrs. Bly’s webpage.

Writing the counter argument For this body paragraph you will acknowledge that the reader may hold the opposite opinion. Therefore you address this claim and then prove that YOUR SIDE is right EXAMPLE: My topic: police wearing body cameras is GOOD (the counter point article) Point article= Police shouldn’t wear them because of privacy issues Counter point article= Police should because cameras record the truth Intro sentence: Even though many citizens believe the use of body cameras on police officers is an invasion of privacy, the truth of the matter is that cameras provide an accurate record of events that may be used in court. first CD is the opposite viewpoint (from the point article) Second CD that REFUTES that claim (so you can reinforce your argument) (counter point article)

Intro Paragraph

Intro ingredients First sentence: Transition sentences: THESIS: your hook, a broad statement, something that leads you into the topic. Doesn’t need to be a question. Transition sentences: Use one sentence to summarize the main idea of each article Include the title and author of EACH article. What is the issue? (the first article you get to when you click on your topic) What is the POINT argument? (the point article) What is the COUNTER POINT argument? (the counter point article) THESIS: Announce your position List your arguments in the order they are in your paragraph Use persuasive words (the “truth” “the one option” etc

Conclusion This is a review of everything I JUST PROVED IN MY BODY PARAGRAPHS!

Conclusion Ingredients: First sentence: Restate your thesis in different order of words or order of phrases Second sentence: main idea of your counter argument paragraph Third sentence: main idea of your body #2 (or 3)= your argument from this paragraph Fourth sentence: main idea of body paragraph #1 Fifth sentence: Why does this matter to the world? Reflect on why this topic is important. (End on a strong note so make sure you end on YOUR side of the topic)
