Lesson outcomes All will finish adding colour and tone to their mask . All will cut out the basic shape of their mask out of cardboard. Most will change the basic mask shape to fit their own design. Some may begin to drawn on areas where they will have relief

Bigger picture P1 : Finish adding colour to design two showing tone and blending P2: draw out mask shape on card and cut out

Step by step instructions Use the basic template to draw out the shape of your mask As you did with your design, divide the mask in half down the centre and across the middle for the eye line. Mark out where the eyes, nose and mouth should be. Draw the outline of the facial features paying particular attention to those you on which you will use relief Cut out the shape of your mask including any amendments to the shape you have made

Paper mache instructions Take off your blazers and roll up your sleeves Begin to shape and twist the news paper to fit the areas where you will apply relief Use a SMALL amount of masking tape to secure the newspaper Tear newspaper strips to the correct size, to big they will crease, to small will take too long. Dip the paper in the paste and wipe off the excess paste. Begin to apply it the areas of relief Mould and shape the newspaper strips to cover all the areas of relief
