SC-10 Oil Well Cements WG-08; Static Gel Strength Testing CSEOM – Winter Meeting - SAT Ramy Eid Work-Group Chair January 23, 2018

Update since Calgary – June, 2017 July 2017 – Contract API/NETL is approved and signed from API side – and waiting on NETL to sign. Aug 2017 – Initiated Phase IV-B testing amongst all labs. (10 labs participating – 1 new – Grace Instruments) Sept 2017 – Received 2 lab results - WG conference call for updates – let alone confirmation on NETL NDA’s Oct 2017 – Barbara received internal approval of funding (from DoE) towards SGS. (Still waiting on API contract) Nov 2017 – Ramy goes to Pittsburgh to meet NETL team and bring them upto speed on WG (since initiation) Dec 2017 – Received 3 more lab results for Phase IV-B. Working with NETL for 2018 Roadmap.

Phase IV-B Testing Guideline As a positive outcome from Phase IV, the WG decided to continue testing (Phase IV-B) - however this time, more monitored, eliminating some of the variables (psi, degF, conditioning, etc).. Same volumes of water/cement/batch used in Phase IV Test pressure to be set for 500 psi. Test Temp to be kept at ambient (or 80F) 3 tests; ATM Conditioning… Condition to ambient/80F temp in 20 min.. then transfer to SGS machine (temperature / pressure will be RAMPED up in 10 min, (JPT) – and then SGS-mode will initiate). 3 tests; In-machine Conditioning… will be done for 30 min where both temp and pressure will be ramped up (JPT) – and then SGS mode will initiate (**) JPT time will not be reported as part of SGS time Conditioning speed to be set for ALL machines (including SGSM) – at 150 rpm Do not alter current settings for SGS mode   ** In case of SGSA – the  “in-machine” conditioning will be substituted by “straight from blender” (as before)
