ELEMENTS IN LIVING THINGS CHAPTER 11 – 1 Part 2

Other Elements in Living Organisms A single cell in your body contains a large number of organic compounds. Other elements combine with carbon to make a variety of compounds on which living things depend.

ELEMENTS IN ORGANIC COMPOUNDS Some other elements beside carbon include: Oxygen & hydrogen: water has both of these in it, and you have a lot of water in your body.

Other Important Elements Sulfur and nitrogen: These are important parts of proteins. Phosphorus: This element allows your cells to get the energy they need. Sulfur & nitrogen deficiency Phosphorus deficiency

Organic Compounds- Not Just From Living Things Organic compounds make up living things. Organic compounds can be manufactured for medicines and drugs. They are the same ones you find in your food.

LET’S REVIEW Name the six elements that molecules in living things are mostly made up of. Carbon Hydrogen Oxygen Nitrogen Sulfur Phosphorus
