1. B. Why - Our View of Our Mission Sought Direction from the Holy Spirit Whidbey Presbyterian Church is a Missional Church. Being missional means we should engage the world the same way Jesus did - by going out rather than just reaching out. Missional means that when a church is in mission it is then the true church. Our mission here at WPC is: "To serve our community with the good news of Jesus Christ and the transforming love of God through the Holy Spirit."
1 B. Why - Our View of Our Mission (contin.) To borrow from Leslie Newbigin, the famous mid-twentieth century missionary to India after World War II. “…the Church is a sign, an instrument and a forecast of God’s kingdom>” Sign – the thing that points to the kingdom Instrument – the thing that cultivates the kingdom Foretaste – the group that embodies the kingdom “As a foretaste of the kingdom of God, the way we interact and the spaces we create for our worship, formation, fellowship, and prayer are not instead of mission, but an integral part of mission.”

This is the Final Version
Sometimes we forget that the church does not exist for its own sake, but so that the world may come to believe in Jesus When we lose sight of that purpose, we are like a theater troop stuck in endless rehearsal, never performing to a live audience.
Now is the Time
