Type Your Own Text Here Type Your Own Text Type Your Own Text Saying goodbye can often be difficult for both parent and child. Here are some tips to help you and your child separate more easily. Type Your Own Text Type Your Own Text It’s important to set both yourself and your child up for success before the first day of school. Talk about school in a positive way, say things like, “School is going to be so much fun!” Read books from the library about going to school. Visit the school with your child before the first day. Here are some steps you can follow to make separating easier: Smile Hug – Give your child a big hug. Say – “I love you!” Say – “I’ll see you after school.” Wave Goodbye. Remember, your child’s anxiety level will often match your own, so it’s important to remain calm when saying goodbye. Type Your Own Text Type Your Own Text After you say goodbye to your child, it’s important that you do not return for additional goodbyes. This can cause confusion for the child and can make it more difficult for the child to adjust to the school routine. It can take up to ten school days for a child to settle into a new routine. Read these books from your local library to your child: The Night Before Preschool by Wing How Do Dinosaurs Go To School? by Yolen I Am Too Absolutely Small for School by Child
