Annotated Bibliographies 112-119
Annotated bibliographies Annotated bibliographies require you to describe the source, give its publication information, and sometimes evaluate each work on a list of sources
Annotated bibliographies Descriptive – summarizes the content of the work without comment. For help with this refer to the summary handout from the Writing Center Evaluative – offers an opinion of the effectiveness or usefulness of the source in addition to describing it
Key features Statement of scope – introductory statement used to explain what you’re covering Complete bibliographic information – gives full citation using either MLA or APA Concise description of work – describes objectively and carefully using accurate information
Key features Relevant commentary – if doing an evaluative bibliography the comments should be relevant to purpose and audience Consistent presentation – make sure design of all the citations are consistent. If you are writing in sentences make sure you do so for all sources. If you write in phrases do it for all sources (you will need to use complete sentences)
Annotated bibliographies Be sure to read the source carefully Think about the CRAAP test and how the work applies to it Organize your bibliography in an identifiable way—alphabetical, chronological, or by importance, etc.
