Computing production Need for detector studies F.Forti Dec 3, 2009 Note: list compiled with little input. Please do comment
Shopping list for 2010 productions Purpose Establish quantitative basis for TDR detector design/choices Specific detector studies Dedicated optimization studies (“private”) Need access to computing resources Background runs (centralized, at least in part) Pair production Touchek background Radiative Bhabhas (a.k.a. beam-strahlung, deprecated) Beam gas (synchrotron radiation ?) Neutron flux Backround frame superposition Especially important for EMC Overall detector geometry optimization High statistics runs (centralized) Mainly for veto-mode devices in rare decays analysis Forward PID, Backward EMC Medium/Low statistics runs (centralized or not, depending on size) Internal geometry of sub-detectors (SVT layers, IFR iron) Details of interfaces (DCH length, radius) Background frame superposition Needed on the centralized runs ? Possible ?
Medium/Low statistics runs SVT about 50K ev for layer distribution optimization med-stat runs with eg BRECO eff studies on two L0 options DCH (med-stat runs for length/cell optimization) PID (med-stat runs for forw PID optimization) EMC 100K rad-bhabha + 100K bhabha for occupancy studies IFR 500-1000K background mix for detector optimization, radiation hardness ETD Trigger studies ? Geometries: several geometries for each study is needed. Use baseline geometry for everything but the detector under study physics channels vary. To be defined in detail Size what medium statistics means isn’t clear: my guess is 106 – 108 events.

High statistics runs Why ? Number of geometries Size (Mainly) Needed to study physics background in rare decays Since no specific process can be singled out a huge event mix needs to be simulated Number of geometries Relevant sub-detectors in this game are Backward EMC – can be inserted in baseline and turned off at analysis level to see the effect. (Almost) no effect on other subdetector Forward PID – affects EMC and DCH. Study K veto increased coverage effect. Two geometries should be enough: With and without Forward PID. Which kind of FPID: to be defined in TB, but most likely the thin TOF style device. High stat run to assess FPID effect on physics. Comparison with FARICH or other technology can be done in med-stat runs Size between 1 and 5 ab-1 are needed
