School Uniform
School Dinner A free healthy school dinner is provided for all children up until Year 2. We encourage all children to have a school dinner and a choice is provided. All children need to be able to use a knife and fork. Encourage your child to eat a range of different foods.
P.E Kit In school every Monday. What should a P.E kit include? Please support your child to get dressed as a means to encourage them to be independent. Ensure all items of clothing are labelled. Trainers or pumps – they CANNOT wear their school shoes. A t-shirt – they CANNOT wear their school t-shirt. This is unhygienic. Jogging bottoms OR shorts depending on preference/the weather.
Home Reading Your child will read to their class teacher/learning support assistant at least twice a week. Other members of staff e.g. DRA’s and parent helpers will also listen to your children read. Your child should read at home as often as possible for no longer than 10 minutes. If challenges in diaries are set they should be completed to help develop understanding and reading skills.
Reading Diary There is a list of questions that you can ask your child when they have finished reading. When you have heard your child read please record this in the reading diary. Please ensure that reading books and diaries are taken care of.
Phonics & Writing We have a phonics lesson every day at school. This is differentiated according to the children’s needs and abilities. We follow the Read Write Inc scheme of work. https://www.ruthmiskin.com/en/ Pre cursive writing – Sheets will be sent home to practise.
How can the children practise spellings? It is important that you practise the word lists which can be found in the front of your child’s reading diary. This will support your child in their reading and writing.
Homework Children will receive Literacy and a Maths homework each week. A ‘WOW’ homework is also available for the child to complete. The homework is to be completed in the Homework books or on the blog. Expectations- Care and presentation is key. Homework will be sent home on a Thursday and must be completed and returned to school by the following Tuesday at the latest.
Homework Overview
Blog Your children’s username and passwords are in the back of their reading diaries. Information and notices can be found on the blog. These are powerful tools that the children like to use. You should be viewing the blogs weekly with your child and posting a comment. Sit down yourself with them once in a while because it will help you to understand what they have been learning. Please make sure children are not using the blog late at night.
NOT JUST FOR HOMEWORK Your children’s username and passwords are at the back of their reading diaries. Just because your child has done their homework it doesn’t mean they have nothing to do!!! There are hundreds of activities listed in year groups and subjects. This is a new area of the website where teacher will add links to teaching and learning web links that have been used in school. Keep checking for updates. https://www.broadheath.coventry.sch.uk/broad-heath-media/broad-heath-tv/reading/
