Welcome to Rice Elementary Hello and welcome to Rice elementary.

Mrs. Maureen Edwards, RN. School Nurse My name is Maureen Edwards .

Things you need to know when your child starts school. Immunizations Dental Exams Physical Exams Medications in school Playground issues Screenings in school When your child starts school he needs to have a record of his immunizations prior to starting school. The State of PA. also requires a dental and physical exam . Today I want to also mention about Medication in school playground concerns what screenings are done and what the notes from the nurse means.

Immunizations Needed to Enter School Bring a copy to the nurse prior to the first day of school. Always keep a copy for your own records If you have any questions do not hesitate to call.

Dental Examination Dental examination is required the first year of school & again in third seventh and eleventh grades Due by the end of school in May.

The dental requirement can be met by Visiting your family dentist Participating in the mobile dentist program Signing the consent form for school dental screening

Physical Exams Physical exams required the1st.year of school & again in 6th grade. A Record of that physical is kept in the students health record. This record follows your child to all the schools attended Due at the end of the school year in May.

Medicine in school Must be a written Doctors order for medication to be given in school by the nurse. This is the law as well as school district policy. There is no difference between over the counter or Prescription medicines. All medicine is to be brought to and from school by an adult. Children cannot give themselves medicine in school. All medicine must be in the original labeled container

Playground

Health Screenings During the school year your child will have his height, weight measured with a letter with your child’s BMI on it. Vision screenings are done in every grade for every year. If you child fails the screening you will receive a letter to take your child to an eye doctor. Please return that form back to the nurse. The Same is true for hearing screenings done in K-3rd grade.

Place A change of cloths in your child’s backpack. Can your child tie his shoes and zip their pants. This may sound trivial but if she or he can’t it will be problems for him or her.

The End
