I can identify the ideas and contributions of Confucius. Confucius goal was to bring order and peace to society. If people behaved according to their duties and responsibilities peace would result. Confucianism was a guide for how civil service members should behave. Loyalty and respect (especially toward family) is central to his teaching.  

2. I can identify the importance of the Silk Road. A trade route that connected India and China to the West. Opened China to missionaries which brought Buddhism and other religions to various parts of the world.

5. I can re-create “The Rise and Fall of Chinese Dynasties” diagram.

6. I can define “Mandate of Heaven”. Chinese believed rulers came to power due to destiny which supported a leaders right to rule.

10. I can identify the leaders and policies of China’s Communist government. Mao Zedong came to power by creating a communist government in 1949. He took land from people and put them on communes, the one child policy, created the Great Leap Forward, and implemented the Cultural Revolution.

12. I can identify the significance of Hong Kong. A world leader in trade, Hong Kong was leased to the British for 99 years. In 1999 Hong returned to Chinese control.

10. What was the purpose of the One-Child Policy? To slow the population growth since the country was struggling to care and feed everyone in the country and it was growing too fast.

10. What was the purpose of the Great Leap Forward? The Great Leap Forward was designed to increase production in farms and factories. The people were scared to not meet the amount of food they were told to produce so they lied. They ended up not producing food to survive. It resulted by creating massive starvation and depleted their resources.
