EXPLORING HONG KONG Travel Vlogs Mr. N. Leung (PROGRAM LEADER) Ms. S. Illsley Approximately 10 mins This Program will see students explore Hong Kong to learn more about its culture and attractions. You will be working in group of two to make a series of travel vlogs about the sites you have explored.

Overview Exploring Hong Kong – Vlogs is a great opportunity for you to explore different parts of Hong Kong that will include Stanley, Victoria Peak, Dragon’s Back Trail, Lamma Island, and Victoria Harbour. This program will introduce you to attractions, culture, and history around Hong Kong while creating and developing a series of travel videos based on your exploration of these exciting locations.

ITINERARY DAY ONE: MONDAY, NOV. 25TH, 2019 On Day 1, you will ride the Peak Tram to the Peak where you will create videos for your vlogs as you explore the Peak. A hike along the Morning Trail will be the highlight of this 2nd day’s trip. 8:15 am to 8:30 am Briefing session at Delia (Room 523) View and share vlog making tips. 8:30 am to 2:00 pm Make our way to our Day One location, Victoria Peak: From the school, take the MTR to Central Station, then ride The Peak Tram up to the Peak. Working in group of 2, you will make videos for your vlogs about Victoria Peak. Return to school using the same method. 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm Arrive at Delia around 2:00 pm. ITINERARY DAY TWO: TUESDAY, NOV. 26TH, 2019 On Day 2, you will be exploring one of the most relaxing parts of Hong Kong, Stanley. You will have opportunities to film your travel experiences at Stanley market, the promenade, and other parts of the neighbourhood. 8:15 am to 8:30 am Briefing session at Delia (Room 523). Discuss vlog making tips. 8:30 am to 2:00 pm Make our way to our Day Two location, Stanley: From the school, walk to Sai Wan Ho, then take Bus #14 to Stanley. Working collaboratively, you will film your experiences at Stanley and nearby areas. Return to school the same way. 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm Arrive at Delia around 2:00 pm. Make and post vlogs on Facebook. DAY THREE: WEDNESDAY, NOV. 27TH, 2019 Delia School of Canada Sculpture Walk & Victoria Harbour 8:15 am to 8:30 am Briefing session at Delia (Room 523). View and share vlog making tips. 8:30 am to 2:00 pm Make our way to our Day Three location, Victoria Harbour: From the school, take the MTR to Tsim Sha Tsui, then head to Kowloon Park for the Sculpture Walk, then walk to the harbour. You will work with a partner to film your experiences at these locations. Return to school using the Star Ferry. 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm Arrive at Delia around 2:00 pm. Make and post vlogs on Facebook. Dismiss at 3:00 pm. On Day 3, you will travel to Victoria Harbour in Tsim Sha Tsui where you will explore and film the newly renovated harbour. On your way, you will also get to visit Kowloon Park for the Sculpture Walk. You will finish the day with a ride back to Hong Kong Island on the Star Ferry.

ITINERARY DAY FOUR: THURSDAY, NOV. 28TH, 2019 On Day 4, you will take a ferry to Yeung Shue Wan, Lamma Island where you will film your travel vlogs about the island. The day’s features will include a tour of the village, the wind turbine, and a nearby beach where you will spend some time to eat your lunch and enjoy the views. Delia School of Canada Lamma Island 8:15 am to 8:30 am Briefing session at Delia School of Canada (Room 523). View and share vlog making tips. 8:30 am to 2:00 pm Make our way to our Day Four location, Lamma Island: From the school, take the MTR to Hong Kong Station. Walk to Central Pier, then take a ferry to Yeung Shue Wan. Tour the neighbourhood, then walk to the beach for lunch, then head to the wind turbine. Return to school the same way. 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm Arrive at Delia around 2:00 pm. Make and post vlogs on Facebook. Dismiss at 3:00 pm.

ITINERARY DAY FIVE: FRIDAY, NOV. 29TH, 2019 Delia School of Canada The excursion on the 4th day will offer you an opportunity to put your physical strengths to the test as you hike along the Dragon’s Back Trail. Once reaching Shek-O Peak, you will have your lunch and enjoy the breath-taking views at the peak. You will end the hike at Big Wave Bay Beach. You will film your experiences together with a partner. Dragon’s Back Trail 8:15 am to 8:30 am Briefing session at Delia (Room 523). View vlogs and share vlog making tips. 8:30 am to 2:00 pm Make our way to our Day Four location, Dragon’s Back Trail: From the school, take the MTR to Shau Kei Wan, then take Bus #9 to To Tei Wan to the head of the Dragon’s Back Trail. Working together, you will film your hiking experiences. Return to school on the same modes of transportation. 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm Arrive at Delia around 2:00 pm. Make and post vlogs on Facebook. Dismiss at 3:00 pm.

PARENT COMMUNICATION We will post videos and updates of the day’s activities to DSC Facebook page for parents to follow.

Note to Parents and students: A fee of $100, depending on the number of enrolment, is required for this program. The maximum number is 40. You will arrive at School at the usual time at 8:15 am but will assemble in Room 522, not your usual Homeroom classrooms. You will return to School by 2:00 pm and go home as usual on each of these five days at 3:00 pm. You must wear your P.E. uniform all five days. You are required to bring an electronic device for filming the locations such as camera, phone, iPad, etc.

You should bring a water bottle and lunch box every day You should bring a water bottle and lunch box every day. You will have lunch at different locations such as the park or indoors. You should bring with you insect repellent and sunscreen, a hat, and if applicable, an umbrella. You should not bring excessive money but you need to make sure there is enough money on your Octopus cards. You will need your laptop and the cord to connect your device to your laptop for the Editing Session during these five days. You will place your laptop in locker while you are on the field trip.

In case of inclement weather: We will check weather in advance in case contingency plan needs to be considered. If rain occurs, we will visit one of the museums in the order listed below. Coastal Defense Museum to learn about the history of Hong Kong’s coastal defences over the years. Hong Kong Museum of History to better understand the culture and history of Hong Kong. Dr. Sun Yat-sen Museum to gain insights into the Doctor’s close connections with Hong Kong. Hong Kong Science Museum to learn about science and technology through informative exhibitions and super fun science related programs and activities. Hong Kong Heritage Museum to have a closer look into the city’s art, history, and culture.
