SUICIDE AWARENESS AND PREVENTION RESOURCES Required Modules: All Suicide Prevention Coordinators: Suicide Prevention Coordinator Basic Course (webinar) Command Suicide Prevention Coordinators only: Front Line Supervisors Peer to Peer Operation Stress Control Prevention Videos: Message from Survivors Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) Brought and paid for by AIRLANT for Command Suicide Prevention Coordinators.

CO Responsibilities Appoint an SPC (E7 or above) in writing Written Suicide Prevention/Crisis Response Plan - Kept at Bldg. LP-1 and all workstations throughout the Command Foster command climate that fosters and promotes psychological health Encourage referrals early Communicate with mental health providers as needed; reintegrating service member back into the unit Safety measures in place, restricting access to means to inflict harm Provide command support in the event of a suicide/suicide behavior to families/personnel Completed suicide – complete Defense Suicide Event Report (DoDSER) within 60 days of notification of death

Key Program Elements Training Increases awareness of Suicide concerns, and ensures that personnel know how to intervene Intervention Ensures timely access to appropriate services and establishes a plan of action for crisis response Response Ensures appropriate resources are available to assist Sailors, families, and Commands affected by suicide Reporting Timely reporting is paramount in improving both command and Navy suicide prevention programs

Execution How do we execute? Who do we report to? Educate via Safety Stand-Downs (September 23) Completed Educate via GMT Educate via Life-skills/health promotions training, work shops and activities Educate via Posters, Literature, Videos & Email Messages Suicide Prevention notes are posted in POW bi-weekly. Who do we report to? POC makes Verbal notification to Chain of Command SPC contact medical, and chaplain Chain of Command notified via updates as required.

Self-Assessment Red, Yellow or Green? Strengths Green Command minimum requirements have been met. 100% completion on Suicide Prevention Coordinators’ Basic Training Course (Webinar). All Departments have been trained, and continue to train on the Suicide Prevention Crisis Response Plan. Updated Crisis Response Plan is posted at all workstations throughout the Command. Two certified SafeTalk Trainers. ASIST Training – Four members of the Command SPC team are ASIST trained, and looking forward to getting 100% SPC team trained to ASIST.

Inspection/Assessments Inspection Requirements: Monthly self assessment. Next scheduled inspection: This program is required to be inspection ready at all times Assessment Requirements: Conduct Self-Assessment upon assuming duties as SPC and at Turn-over. - Brief (in person) CO/XO/CMC every quarter. - Provide SPC PPT brief to CO/XO/CMC via email on the 5th of each month.
