After studying this session, you will be able to: Explain the responsibilities of the AIS. Identify the users of Aeronautical Information Services and their requirements Identify the sub units of the AIS and the functions of those sub units. Explain the process of collection of raw data Explain the disseminate of aeronautical information through the elements of the IAIP Describe the importance of Pre-flight and Post –flight information 2

Purpose of the AIS 3

Users of Aeronautical Information Pilot AIS units of other states FLT OPS personnel Maps and chart producing agencies Air Navigation Services 4

The Objective of AIS is The object of the aeronautical information service (AIS) is to ensure the flow of aeronautical data and aeronautical information necessary for global air traffic management (ATM) system safety, regularity, economy and efficiency in an environmentally sustainable manner 5

AIS shall liaise with AIS units of other states Technical services within the states Air Traffic Services within the states ACFT operating agencies conducting operations in or through the state Maps and Charts producing agencies Any other service which may be source of information 10

Responsibility of an AIS of a state Each contracting state shall, 1. Provide an aeronautical information service independently or 2. Jointly with one or more contracting states or 3. Delegating the authority to a non governmental agency for the collection and distribution of aeronautical information in accordance with the Standards stipulated in Annex

The state shall remain the responsible for the information published. Aeronautical Information published for, and on behalf of a state shall clearly indicate that it is published under the authority of that state. 12

Responsibility of an AIS is To Collect and disseminate of aeronautical information, In a suitable form For use of all types of ACFT operations Concerning entire territory of the state and Concerning areas in which the state is responsible to provide ATS outside the territory (if any) 13

The information provided by AIS shall be Accurate Adequate Authenticand Timely 14

Types of Information handled by AIS Information of lasting nature Information of temporary nature Information of Explanatory, Advisory or Administrative nature 15

Collection of Aeronautical information AIS normally does not originate raw data Raw information is collected from various sources. Information providers should ensure the speedy and reliable lines of communication with the AIS. 16

Collection of Aeronautical information For the collection of Raw data AIS shall liaise with AIS units of other states Technical services within the states Air Traffic Services within the states Military Services within the states ACFT operating agencies conducting operations in or through the state Maps and Charts producing agencies Any other service which may be source of information 17

Flow of Information between AIS and other Units 18 Source of Data Raw DataAIS Users of AIS Elements of IAIP

19 Process of Collecting Raw Data Identify the source of raw data Select the mode of communication Notify about the planned amendment to the data originator Provide a specific time frame to receive raw data. Use the relevant forms to collect raw data

20 After Receiving Raw Data Check for the authenticity Re-check for the accuracy Keep records of received raw data Keep records of contacted personnel File the raw data separately, according to the publication requirements

Organization of an AIS Technical orientation of an AIS is technically oriented in the nature of the service it provides. Status of an AIS An AIS should be established as a separate entity within a civil aviation administration Size and scope of an AIS The volume of aircraft operations and the extent to which civil aviation facilities are provided will determine the size and scope of a State’s AIS. 21

Main Units of an AIS AIS Head Quarters International NOTAM office (NOF) Aerodrome/heliport AIS units Cartographic services Related technical services Printing and distribution services (Doc 8126-Chapter 3) 22
