NEC is the entity within NSNA that is responsible for recruiting and preparing a list of qualified leaders for the election at Annual Convention NEC is made up of 4 members representing the 4 regions (North, South, East, West) of NSNA After you have contacted NSNA, a member of the NEC will contact you and guide you through the process of running for national office HOW TO RUN FOR NATIONAL OFFICE 5 NOMINATING AND ELECTIONS COMMITTEE (NEC)
Any current member of NSNA is eligible to run for a national office, this includes: – Members who are enrolled in school for 9 months of their elected term, except President and VP – Associate members (Pre-nursing students) are eligible to run for national office, except President and VP HOW TO RUN FOR NATIONAL OFFICE 6 ELIGIBLE MEMBERS

After initial contact by a member of NEC, you will receive a candidate packet via U.S. Mail, which will include: – Application – Digest of Information – Getting the Pieces to Fit – Campaign Regulations – Other documents to be used at Convention You can access some of these documents at unforNationalOffice.aspx ! unforNationalOffice.aspx HOW TO RUN FOR NATIONAL OFFICE 8 OBTAINING A CANDIDATE PACKET
Pre-slating means being designated as a candidate prior to convention – Advantages of pre-slating, include being: Published in Imprint Allowed to campaign early Less stressed at Convention In order to be pre-slated, a potential candidate must have their completed application and required signatures submitted by January 25, 2012 to NSNA. HOW TO RUN FOR NATIONAL OFFICE 9 PRE-SLATING
Potential candidates who miss the deadline for pre- slating are allowed to run from the floor, including: – Those who submit completed applications after the deadline – Those who decide to run at convention In order to run from the floor, a potential candidate must: – Submit a completed application to be reviewed and verified by NEC – Be nominated by a delegate at the HOD Potential candidates are NOT allowed to campaign ANYWHERE, until OFFICIALLY designated a candidate HOW TO RUN FOR NATIONAL OFFICE 10 RUNNING FROM THE FLOOR
Write-in candidates are defined as candidates in an election whose names do not appear on the ballot, but for whom voters may vote by writing in the person's name on the ballot These candidates CANNOT campaign at all! Official election of these candidates is pending, meeting the eligibility requirements as specified by NSNA bylaws. HOW TO RUN FOR NATIONAL OFFICE 11 WRITE-IN CANDIDATES
