Pl Theme Map for Year 4: Summer 2019 English Computing Science PE Please encourage your child to read each day Theme Map for Year 4: Summer 2019 Swimming – Summer 1 Gymnastics: Perform recognisable movements; describe how their performance has improved; link a series of different movements together to form a short routine; practise and refine own movements. English Computer Programming: Selecting, using and combining a variety of software (including internet services) on a range of digital devices to design and create a range of programs, systems and content that accomplish given goals, including collecting, analysing, evaluating and presenting data and information. Computing Science PE Geography The Stone Age to the Iron Age: Where were the best places to build settlements and why? The settlement of Skara Brae. Where are surviving UK monuments located? Sound (continued) Electricity: Identifying common appliances that run on electricity. Constructing a simple series electrical circuit, identifying and naming its basic parts. Identifying whether or not a lamp will light in a simple series circuit. Recognising that a switch opens and closes a circuit and associate this with whether or not a lamp lights in a simple series circuit. Recognising some common conductors and insulators, and associate metals with being good conductors. Year 4 1:The Romans 2:The Stone Age to Iron Age The Roman Empire: Which countries made up the Roman Empire? Use maps, atlases, globes and digital/computer mapping to locate these countries. Investigate the Romans’ impact on landscape. Art & DT Music Stone Age Paintings: What were these paintings of? Using a sketchbook to collect ideas. Improving mastery of art and design techniques through using charcoal or chalk to draw pictures onto stones. Roman Catapult: Design, make and evaluate a Roman catapult. Develop technical knowledge through experimenting with a variety of fastening tools and materials to aid movement. Decimal numbers, including relating decimal fractions to proper fractions and recognising equivalents. Children to play and perform individually and in groups, using their voices and playing musical instruments with increasing accuracy, fluency, control and expression. Consolidating place value in 4- and 5-digit numbers; multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100, placing numbers (including negative) on lines, and adding and subtracting powers of 10. History The Roman Empire: Invasions including conquests and leadership, Boudicca’s Rebellion, Hadrian’s Wall, Gods and Goddesses. How have the Romans influenced life today? Maths RE Times tables, harder written multiplication algorithms; division as the inverse of multiplication; mental and written strategies for multiplication and division; unit and non-unit fractions and the decimal results of dividing by 10 and 100. What do Sikhs believe? Exploring what Sikhs believe about God, understanding why Guru Nanak was so important and what it means to be equal, the significance of the Amrit ceremony and signs Sikhs use to show their faith. Liturgy: Defining liturgy, exploring how prayer is at the heart of worship and how music enhances Christian worship, investigating whether Christian worship is the same all around the world. The Stone Age to the Iron Age: What was the Stone Age? Which tools were crucial to the survival of early man? What is Skara Brae? Why was copper mining important in the Bronze Age? What was the Iron Age? Where did people live in these times? Adding and subtracting 2-, 3- and 4- digit numbers; using knowledge of factors, products and doubling to solve multiplication problems mentally; written column methods. Calculating perimeters and areas of shapes, properties of 2D and 3D shapes. Using coordinate grids; drawing line graphs; knowledge that intermediate points have meaning.
