The State established the Community Engagement Initiative to: Build capacity in communities and districts to have difficult conversations with each other and build trust, with a focus on improving outcomes for pupils Build Identify effective models of community engagement and metrics to evaluate those models Identify Develop effective peer-to-peer partnerships between districts and COEs, utilizing CCEE’s PLN structure, to deepen community engagement Develop Scale up this work to improve community engagement statewide and incorporate practices that prove effective towards district and COE continuous improvement efforts Scale up The State established the Community Engagement Initiative to: The State Board of Education, the State Superintendent of Schools Office, the California Department of Education and even legislators heard from communities and schools and realized that while community members were invited to the table to create the Local Control Accountability Plans for each district, there was not a strong sense that all of the community voices were at the table, nor were all the conversations districts and communities were having authentic and honest about problems and how to solve them. Legislators initiated the Community Engagement Initiative Statute from AB 1808 (2018-19 Education Trailer Bill) to address this concern
