YORKTOWN ELEMENTARY NEWSLETTER Important Dates for April April 3rd : 1st field trip, pizza fundraiser starts April 9th : STAAR 4th Writing, 5th Math, 3rd field trip April 10th : STAAR 5th reading, 2nd field trip, progress reports go home April 11th : Benchmarks: 3rd and 4th math April 12th : Benchmarks: 3rd and 4th reading April 15th : Benchmarks: 5th science April 16th : 4th field trip, ABC fundraiser delivery April 17th : 5th field trip April 18th : Pizza fundraiser ends April 19th & 22nd : Student holiday April 23rd : Earth day celebration April 25th : Family game night April 30th : Pizza fundraiser delivery April 18 Easter Parties Look for a note coming home from your child’s teacher letting you know what your child will need to bring that day! Students will hunt eggs and have their Easter party on that day! PRE-K & KINDER EARLY REGISTRATION: Friday, April 26th from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. We will need the following items in order to register your child… •proof of residence •proof of income •social security card •birth certificate and •current shot record Principal: Pamela Flores Counselor: Brandi Olsovsky Secretary: Rebecca Broll

Your child will be participating in Family Project This month we would like you to talk with your child about what he/she would like to be when they grow up. Give them ideas and suggestions! You can put together a poster showing images that go along with the job. This can include the college they plan to attend. Counselor Corner The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) will be administered this Spring 2019. For elementary, the STAAR measures the statewide curriculum in Reading at Grades 3-5; Writing at Grade 4; Mathematics at Grades 3-5; and Science at Grade 5.  Your child will be participating in the following STAAR testing: April 9th 4th grade WRITING 5th grade MATH  April 10th 5th grade READING   May 13th 3rd & 4th grade MATH 5th grade MATH (retest)  May 14th 3rd & 4th grade READING 5th grade READING (retest)  May 15th 5th grade SCIENCE **Due to the importance of the STAAR test, please make sure there are no scheduled appointments or no early pick-ups on these days. Students do have the tendency to rush when they know they will be picked up early. Thank you for your continued support. BUS RIDING The school bus is regarded as an extension of the classroom. The rules are in place for the safety of your students as well as others who ride the bus. Please remember that riding the school bus is a privilege. Your child is expected to be cooperative, maintain order and obey the rules. Students can be removed for misbehavior.
