Debates

What is a debate? Verbal contest where two teams argue against each other and try to KNOCK DOWN the other team’s argument. The team that makes the best argument wins!

Time to investigate.. 20 minutes Groups of THREE Watch some sample debates (Two teachers 6:14, students 4:41) Find out what the following roles are in debates: Resolution Affirmative team Negative team Rebuttal Judge Debate structure 20 minutes

Key Definitions Resolution - the statement Affirmative team - the team that is for the argument Negative team – team is against the argument in the debate Rebuttal – one makes an argument and the other team says no you are wrong and this is why Judge – person decides who wins the debate
