Galilee Galilee was the most northern of the three provinces in the western part of Palestine. It lay between the upper part of Jordan and the Sea of Galilee on the east and Phoenicia on the west. Familiar towns in Galilee are: Nazareth, Cana, Capernaum, and Nain. In Jesus’ time there were many more Gentiles (non- Jews) in this district than in Judea, and the Jewish people themselves were more liberal in their religious thinking. For this reason Jesus had greater success in His ministry in Galilee than in Judea where the strict orthodoxy of the Jews prevailed, And because the Jews in Galilee had so much contact with Gentiles, the Judean Jews regarded them as being corrupted. Perhaps this would explain in part the attitude of the Jewish leaders toward Jesus, as well as the basis of Nathaniel’s question to Philip: “. . . Can any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip said to him, ‘Come and see’” (John 1:46).

Gospel in Geography Mark 1:9 It came to pass in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan.

Here is our challenge: When we read information such as is on this page, do we look up every scripture and check out the information?

Kedesh, the city of refuge, is described as lying in Galilee, in Mt Naphtali, (Joshua 20:7) Compare (Joshua 21:32

Joshua 20:7 (NKJV) 7 So they appointed Kedesh in Galilee, in the mountains of Naphtali, Joshua 21:32 (NKJV) 32 and from the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee with its common-land (a city of refuge for the slayer), Kedesh: A walled city in Naphtali (Josh 19:37), It was designated as a city of refuge (Josh 21:32) The name means “Sanctuary”

Judges 4:8-10 (NKJV) 8 And Barak said to her, "If you will go with me, then I will go; but if you will not go with me, I will not go!“ 9 So she said, "I will surely go with you; nevertheless there will be no glory for you in the journey you are taking, for the Lord will sell Sisera into the hand of a woman." Then Deborah arose and went with Barak to Kedesh. 10 And Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh; he went up with ten thousand men under his command, and Deborah went up with him.

On and On we could go to check out all these reference. Judges 1:33 (NKJV) 33 Nor did Naphtali drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh or the inhabitants of Beth Anath; but they dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land. Nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh and Beth Anath were put under tribute to them. On and On we could go to check out all these reference.

Province of Galilee Galilee Nazareth Galilee: A region to the West of the Sea of Galilee. Galilee was the northern-most part of the three regions into which the Romans divided Palestine. Christ spent a considerable amount of his early ministry here.

Only found in Mat 11:21 and Luke 10:13 Chorazin Only found in Mat 11:21 and Luke 10:13 About 2 miles from Capernaum To be used by Jesus in his woes shows that it must be of some importance.

Galilee -Nimrod’s Fortress Is this really the Nimrod’s Fortress ? I spent many, many hours researching Nimrod

Nimrod’s Fortress- Galilee Genesis 10:6-9 6 And the sons of Ham; Cush, and Mizraim, and Phut, and Canaan. 7 And the sons of Cush; Seba, and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabtecha: and the sons of Raamah; Sheba, and Dedan. 8 And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth. 9 He was a mighty hunter before the Lord: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the Lord.

Nimrod – Son of Cush

Nimrod – Son of Cush Nimrod: A son of Cush (Gen 10:7) Nimrod was a “mighty one on the earth” and a “mighty hunter before the Lord” (Gen 10:8-9) He founded the city of Babel. The Hebrew name Nimrod means “Let us rebel”, given by his contemporaries. The Hebrew name Nimrod means "let us rebel," given by his contemporaries to Nimrod as one who ever had in his mouth such words to stir up his band to rebellion. Nimrod subverted the existing patriarchal order of society by setting up a chieftainship based on personal valor and maintained by aggression.

Nimrod – Son of Cush The early conquest of the cities of Babylonia, or their federation into one great kingdom, is here ascribed to Nimrod.  Whether the founding and colonization of Assyria (Genesis 10:11) are to be ascribed to Nimrod will be determined by the examination of the text.  English Versions of the Bible reads: "Out of that land he (i.e.  Nimrod) went forth into Assyria, and built Nineveh," etc., this translation assigning the rise of Assyria to Nimrod, and apparently being sustained by Micah 5:5-6 (compare J. M. P. Smith, "Micah," International Critical The International Standard Bible Encyclopedia.

Nimrod – Son of Cush Josephus wrote: "Now it was Nimrod who excited them to such an affront and contempt of God. He was the grandson of Ham, the son of Noah, a bold man, and of great strength of hand. He persuaded them not to ascribe it to God, as if it were through his means they were happy, but to believe that it was their own courage which procured that happiness. He also gradually changed the government into tyranny, seeing no other way of turning men from the fear of God, but to bring them into a constant dependence on his power. He also said he would be revenged on God, if he should have a mind to drown the world again; for that he would build a tower too high for the waters to reach. And that he would avenge himself on God for destroying their forefathers.

Nimrod’s Fortress- Galilee Genesis 10:10-12 10 And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar. 11 Out of that land went forth Asshur, and built Nineveh, and the city Rehoboth, and Calah, 12 And Resen between Nineveh and Calah: the same is a great city.

CALNEH The name of the fourth city of Nimrod's kingdom (Genesis 10:10), the three preceding it being Babel, Erech, and Accad, the capital of the realm of Babylonia and the chief cities of three of the principal states. The meaning of the name is unknown, and many regard the identification as uncertain. Identified with Nippur: G. Rawlinson thought it to be the modern Niffer (or Noufar), comparing the Talmudic (compare Yoma') Nopher, which is said to be the same as Calneh. The International Standard Bible Encyclopedia. 7

Nimrod’s Fortress- Galilee Micah 5:5-6 5 And this man shall be the peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men. 6 And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall he deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treads within our borders.

Could this be Nimrod of the Bible?

Nimrod’s Fortress – Genesis 10:10 ?? This English name for the castle mistakenly associated it with Nimrod, an ancient figure of great strength mentioned in Genesis 10:8-9 was built by Muslims around the 12th century After hours of research it appears that this is NOT the Fortress of Nimrod of Genesis 10:10
