Social Security Number and Driver’s License You must complete registration with DVS before applying for a Social Security Number or a NC Driver’s License. For Social Security Number: F-1 students only eligible if approved for employment. J-1 students eligible without employment. When eligible, students must present to Social Security Administration: Verification letter (visa status/job) issued by DVS Required supporting documents Trips to SSA occur every Wednesday at 10 a.m. Please arrive at International House by 9:45 a.m. For Social Security Number and Driver’s Licenses: WAIT 10 business days after entering the U.S. and registering with DVS before applying. Call Ihouse, when will they know of SS dates in August

Final Checklist To finalize the E-Registration process you are required to bring the following items to Duke Visa Services: Your ORIGINAL visa documents. Your completed Registration Form. Signed Acknowledgement Form. J-1 students only, the completed J Health Insurance Form. If you are a non-Duke sponsored J-1 Student (i.e. Fulbright, IIE, AMIDEAST, etc.) you must schedule an appointment with your DVS advisor directly to complete your registration.
