When do you use this? You use Keq to find the concentration of a reversible reaction at equilibrium. You use Q to find the concentration of a reversible.
Equilibrium. Equilibrium Some reactions (theoretically all) are reversible reactions, in which the products take part in a separate reaction to reform.

Equilibrium Constant (Keq)

Equilibrium Constant An equilibrium does not mean that you have 50% of the reactants and 50% of the products. It could be any combination that adds up to 100%. It is the rates that are equal in an equilibrium. The equilibrium constant is a number that describes the balance between reactants and products in a system at equilibrium Equilibrium Constant (Keq) – product of concentrations divided by the product of the concentrations of reactants

Practice Problems

Calculating Equilibrium Constants If Keq << 1 The reverse reaction is favored; forward reaction does not proceed very far If Keq ≈ 1 Neither direction is favored; forward reaction proceeds about halfway If Keq >> 1 The forward reaction is favored; forward reaction proceeds virtually to completion
