Personification When something nonhuman (an object, idea, or animal) is given human qualities

For example… “The smoke detector shrieked when Mary burned her toast.” “Sunrise stretched her fingers over the horizon.” “The strawberries begged me to eat them.”

In Where the Red Fern Grows “It was a beautiful night, still and frosty. A big grinning Ozark moon had the countryside bathed in a soft yellow glow.” (p. 77) “My back screamed with pain.” (p. 85)
