Ephesians 2 2 Corinthians 5

Paul addresses for his readers the most fundamental of all questions humanity has suggested: who are we? For Paul, he is not going to pat the readers on the back with memories of their skills, talents, looks, or other earthly values. As always, He calls us to Christ.

Eight Years ago, at the twilight of what is now called the Great Recession, when Americans had very little by way of luxury funds and many were reeling from job loss (an estimated 9 Million jobs lost from February 2008- February 2010), still, “Americans spent $11 billion in 2008 on self-improvement books, CDs, seminars, coaching and stress-management programs.” (Forbes)

When facing the question of who we are, it is actually not so important! Whether we know who we are right now or not does not change the reality of who we are meant to be! As we fix our eyes on Christ we will find all the confirmation of who we are as well as the opportunities for growth and adjustment. He makes solid what is in us that is of Him and weakens what is not.

If then we want to know who we are If then we want to know who we are. If then we want to share with the world who it is meant to be: We must look at Jesus. The question of identity will not disappear from the lost world- but it will become all the more desperate if the church does not call out with love in reply “God’s beloved child. Jesus’ little sibling. A light of the world.”
