How to get an A+ on the Final Exam Class Review

How will the test go? You will be put into groups of three. Each group will come in at the same time and be interviewed by the professor. This is not a group test! You will be graded individually. You as a group will have 10 minutes total for the interview. About 3 minutes for each person. After your group is done, you can go! Make sure to come at least 10 minutes early for your time. Being late will result in an F!

English Speaking Benchmarks You will be graded on these four areas during your final exam: Quality & Content 퀄리티, 콘텐츠   Length of Answers, A+, keeps going Wh- Questions and others: Who, What, When, Where, How often, Opinions: I think (use -er or more) Emotions: I feel Vocabulary 단어, 어휘 Original vocabulary and phrases, Native Speaker terms, Textbook Vocabulary (4 Corners 2), etc. Coherence, Pronunciation 발음, 문법적 정확성 Pronunciation, Grammar: 3 main styles of English: True (I play), and Tense shifts: False (I don’t play), Past, Present, Future Question (Do you play), Confidence, Attitude, & Fluency 자신감, 태도, 유창성 Good Eye Contact, Seamless speech, Lack of starting/stopping, self-assured and capable

A+ Answers TALK AS MUCH AS YOU CAN!! Short answer *Extra information (5W’s + HOW OFTEN, HOW MUCH…) *Opinions/comments (I think... In my opinion...) A “return” question TALK AS MUCH AS YOU CAN!!

FINAL EXAM STRATEGY QUESTION CONFIRMATION Why confirm the question? Demonstrates your understanding Saves you from potential disaster Gives you time to think How to confirm? Repeat the topic: “My favorite sport?” Repeat the question: “What’s my favorite sport?” or Rephrase the question: “You want to know what my favorite sport is?” “You’re asking me about my favorite sport, is that right?”

Strategy Review: Fillers (BETTER THAN SILENCE!!) That’s a good question… Well… Umm…. I guess…. …ya’ know… …like…like…like…like… ★ BE CAREFUL ★ A: Tell me about your best friend. B: That’s a good question! A: Huh??

Strategy Review: Changing the Subject Q: Do you like to cook? A: Umm, no, not really. But I love to watch cooking shows on TV. My favorite is “Refrigerator, Please.” It’s about, like, these celebrity chefs, who, you know… Q: Have you ever been in an accident? A: That’s a good question! No, I’ve never been in an accident myself, but once I saw a really bad accident. We were, like, driving on the highway and… THE KEY: It must be a related topic.
