Leaving school …

Transition This time in your life is characterised by big changes. You should be thinking about and preparing for these. Take a moment to brainstorm how you are feeling about the changes this year, and next year are going to bring.

TRANSITION FROM SCHOOL TRANSITION FROM SCHOOL TO POST SCHOOL NEGATIVE FEELINGS IDEAS POSITIVE CONSEQUENCES POSITIVE NEGATIVE

Share some of your ideas and feelings with a partner You do not need to share everything that you have written down, only share what you feel comfortable with. Try to share some of the positive things and some of the negative things that you are feeling.

Potential of something better Creation of new opportunities CHANGE Positive Negative Potential of something better Creation of new opportunities Personal growth Potential of new relationships Learning Strength Fear of the unknown Leaving people you love behind Leaving what you know and enjoy Add some ideas from learners( or let learners add in work book.

Dealing with change… Different people deal with change in different ways. Certain behaviours are more healthy and certain are less healthy in the long run. Consider your family / culture and the way that it deals with change: Is there a celebration or occasion to mark the change? Do people talk about it or do they keep quiet about it? Do people discuss their fears or only the positive aspects about the change?

Dealing with change Consider and research your options Ask questions about things you are unsure of Set achievable goals Anticipate the positive and the negative in the change Positive thinking and positive framing Consider your support and what you will do when facing some of the negative aspects of the change Ensure you have a positive lifestyle and have good stress management techniques in place; choose things that are sustainable Speak to somebody you trust about the change and what you are afraid and excited about

Traditional practices and change In group of 3 learners, discuss and share the any rituals, traditional practices. In your groups, come up with ideas how these practices help with the challenges of change.

Ability to deal with change The reality is that change is inevitable in life – particularly in this world! Your ability to deal effectively with change is going to play a role in how successful you are. Even if you are afraid of the change that is coming give yourself the best chance to experience it and deal with it positively.
