5th Grade Science Project Elements 5th Grade Science Project

Objective for the Project Part One: Students will conduct research on an chemical element and create an information card on cardstock about that element. Part Two: You will complete report or power point that includes a written description of the element with accurate information about the element’s composition and include information from the periodic table. Part Three: You will the present the project to the class.

Grade Your drawing on the cardstock. It has to be accurate. You will receive THREE test grades for this project. Your drawing on the cardstock. It has to be accurate. Five questions and name on the back of the cardstock Powerpoint or Report Presentation

Rubric For Element Chosen Name _______________ Grade ________ Element ________________ 1. ____ Accurate drawing of the element chosen. (50 points) Comments ______________________________________ ________________________________________________ 2. ____ The five questions on Analyzing the Results. (25 points) 3. ____ Including the name of the element, the symbol, the atomic number, and the atomic mass in the correct locations. (25 points) Comments: _____________________________________ ____ Total Points

Rubric for the Element Project Report or Powerpoint Name ___________ Grade ______ Element _________ 25 Points A good written description of the element Elements Composition Details about group the element’s are in and tell about the actual group Seven or more facts about your element 20 Points A written description of the element with mostly accurate information Accurate Information Some details about the element’s group Five facts about your element. 15 Points The written descriptions of the element has inaccurate information Mostly Accurate Information Four facts about your element 10 Points The written descriptions are inaccurate and there is missing information Missing Key Information Two or Three facts about your element 5 or less points There is little or no information. ________ There is little or no information. _________

Put in your presentation the five questions on Elements Analyze the Results What is the atomic mass of your element? What does the atomic mass represent? What is a molecule? How is a molecule formed? How do scientists show which elements are included in a molecule?

Include Information on… Number of protons Number of neutrons Number of electrons You should also tell what kind of element it is (metal, nonmetal, metalloid) and include common uses for the element and its level of reactivity.

Grade for Presentation Name ____________ Element Name ____________ Powerpoint or Report __________ Great Things: Stuff you need to work on when you present: Grade __________

Please Remember!!! Due Monday after Thanksgiving – No Points Taken away!!! __________ Tuesday / -5 points for each part missing. Wednesday - / -10 points for each part missing. Thursday - / -20 points for each part missing. Friday - / - 25 points for each part missing. If you do not turn it in by Friday you will get a 0 on all three parts of the project.
