1. The election of 1800 marked the first peaceful transition in power from one political party to another. John Adams and Charles C. Pinckney – The Federalists; Jefferson and Aaron Burr were Democratic-Republicans. The first two parties in America: The Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans. Because of the voting problems between president and vice president, Congress proposed the 12th Amendment – there should be separate ballots for different parties. The President and Vice President will run on the same ticket. Jefferson won and Burr was vice president. It was a peaceful transition between parties because followers/supporters of both parties wrote letters and did not have physical fights.

2. President Jefferson’s beliefs about the federal government were reflected in his policies.

3. Marbury v. Madison increased the power of the judicial branch of the government.
