National versions of NACE Rev.2 Legal context • Use of NACE Rev.2 is mandatory within the European Statistical System (Regulation (EC) No 1893/2006 of 20 December 2006) • National versions are allowed. (Article 4 (1) from Regulation (EC) No 1893/2006) AMENDAMENTS: - only exact breakdowns of NACERev.2 classes are admitted; - when no breakdowns, the same headings as the corresponding NACE Rev.2 classes; - Commission approval prior to national publication (Article 4 (2 and 3) from Regulation (EC) No 1893/2006)

National versions of NACE Rev.2 Rules for national sub-classes ► The relative importance of concerned activities have to be taken into account; ► Consistency of size of national sub-classes is needed – a certain turnover and employment must be achieved; In NAF, sub-classes were allowed when either: Turnover > 2 billions € or Employment > 15 000 persons ► Sub-classes allow good classifying of statistical units; ► Units belonging to the same sub-class are as similar as possible; ► CPA headings linked to a sub-class represent the main production of units included in this sub-class.

National versions of NACE Rev.2 Building process Step 1: Gathering the needs of the users; Step 2: Checking relevance of requests; Step 3: Proposal of national structure; Step 4: Analysis and approval by organisation responsible for the national activities classification; Step 5: Proposal of explanatory notes and final approval by organisation responsible for the national activities classification; Step 6: Checking of conformity to NACE Rev.2 by the Commission; Step 7: Adoption of the national legislation.

National versions of NACE Rev.2 CANE Rev.2 - Romanian version of NACE Rev.2 Legal basis ▪ Government Decision No. 656/1997, regarding the Classification of activities from national economy – CANE, published in the Official Journal of Romania No. 301 / 05.11.1997. It came into force on January 1st , 1998. ▪ CANE rev.1, the revised version of CANE, was approved by Order No.601/2002 of NIS President, based on Government Decision No.656 /1997, published in the OJ of Romania No. 908/13.12.2002. It came into force on January 1st , 2003. ▪ Regulation (EC) No 1893/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 December 2006 establishing the statistical classification of economic activities NACE Revision 2.

National versions of NACE Rev.2 Criteria applied in building process of CANE Rev.2 ▪ National activities classification CANE Rev.2 ensured a 1:1 rapport with the classification entities from NACE Rev.2; ▪ The significance and the content of the titles from NACE Rev.2 has been kept in national activities classifications CANE rev.2; ▪ The explanatory notes of CANE Rev.2 were built starting from the NACE Rev.2 explanatory notes and sometimes extended.

National versions of NACE Rev.2 Actions in the building process of CANE Rev.2 ▪ In the NSI Romania a Committee for the elaboration of CANE Rev.2 has been created. Steps: 2, 4, 5 and 7 ▪ Two communication channels were opened: INTRANET for NSI experts INTERNET for “external” users of classifications Step 1 NOTE : Were accepted only proposals regarding: - the improvement of titles (headings) and explanatory notes - the correction of mistakes

National versions of NACE Rev.2 Achievements ▪ Classification of Activities of National Economy - CANE Rev.2 was approved by Order of the NIS President No 337/April 2007 and published in the Official Journal of Romania No.293/03.05.2007. It came into force on January 1st, 2008. ▪ The book “CANE Revision 2 - Explanatory notes” was published in October 2007. The book contains the conversion table CANE Rev.1 - CANE Rev.2 with notes concerning the links between classifications. ▪ CANE Rev.2 - structure - is available on the Romanian classifications and nomenclatures server SENIN at the address: http://senin.insse.ro
