How Recruiters Evaluate a Resume + <30sec

Recruiters Look for… Expertise that connects with the job description Bullet points that describe the impact you had on the organization Information that goes beyond a task list and explains the results The answer to the question: What value will you bring to my organization?

Pick a project or work experience and write a story How to Start Pick a project or work experience and write a story Answer the questions: What did I do? How did I do it? Why did I do it? What did I achieve? (include numbers & adjectives)

How to Start Write your narrative Edit & condense -highlight phrases that explain what you did and what your successes were -Start to edit your answers into short and concise phrases; -Combine and link phrases that go together -Be sure all phrases start with a verb -Add in context – numbers and adjectives

Using Verbs & Adjectives Always start a bullet point with a strong verb, either present or past tense, not ending in –ing Add adjectives to help clarify what you accomplished. Be sure not to make the statement a hyperbole Usually to convey time, ex: completed project in a timely manner ahead of schedule How you did something, ex: delivered high quality customer service Manage Create Analyze Shipped Implement Execute Design Led Launched Solved Define Developed Decreased Automated Increased
