Free Comic Book Day Inspired by Fayetteville PL at the 2012 ArLA conference Held on the1st Saturday in May each year 2016 marked 15 years of FCBD Originally celebrated by independent comic shops Publishers print special editions Main purpose: introduce the joy of reading comics, call back former readers, & thank buyers for their support

Doctor Who Extravaganza Playing on the popularity of the long running television show Built a model of the TARDIS as a photo prop Events included: -Science of Doctor Who & History of Doctor Who presentations -Coloring sheets for kids -Doctor Who themed crafts -Watercolor TARDIS painting -Showing of episodes & specials -Snacks -Take-home activity packets

Downton Abbey December 2014 October 2015 Tea was donated by a local shop Trivia contest Door prizes (donated by Penguin Random House) Presentation on the history of Highclere Castle Open discussion of the show Showed the 2013 Christmas episode Celebrated the start of the last season of Downton Abbey Macaroons & tea donated from local shops Trivia contest and door prize drawing Participants dressed up ‘Downton Dish’ Updated presentation on the history of Highclere Castle Showed the 2014 Christmas episode

Star Wars Day Star Wars is a multi-generational epic Event was the Saturday following the movie’s release Events included: -Jedi Training Academy -Door prizes -Jedi yoga -Lightsaber demonstration by a local martial arts academy -“Who Killed Jar Jar?” Murder mystery -Star Wars movie series -Star Wars themed storytime & craft

Star Wars Response December 2015 – 250 attendees Biggest hit was the “Make Your Own Lightsaber” Many of the children who attended knew quite a bit about Star Wars

Inception Spring/Summer 2014 Inspired by Wil Wheaton’s crowdfunding success for season 3 of his hit YouTube show TableTop Spoke with other libraries who have tabletop game collections Wrote letters to game publishers asking for game donations to start a collection Reached out to local game stores/venues for support and donations Created policies and procedures for game check-out (in-library use only) TableToppers officially began in September 2014

TableToppers Impact To date, BPL has received 114 donated games The total value of the game collection is $3,288.79 The total value of all materials donated is $3,832.14 All tabletop games and other materials were donated to BPL by corporate, local, or individual donors Tabletop gaming has led to community event partnerships (i.e. Game It Forward, A2F) Working to start circulating games outside the Library

About ITTD Created and sponsored by Geek & Sundry as a way for the world to celebrate tabletop gaming together Focuses on all tabletop gaming, including RPGs Players of all ages and skill levels are welcome Geek & Sundry hosts a livestream event via their Twitch channel 2014 saw Tabletop Day celebrated in 80 countries over all 7 continents with more than 3,000 registered events

About IGD ALA sponsored event created in 2007 2015 was BPL’s first year to participate Sponsors of the national event donated games to participating libraries Partnered with Northwest Arkansas Roleplaying Gamers (NWARPG) and Gear Gaming Store of Fayetteville Marco’s Pizza donated a pizza lunch for attendees Scheduled events throughout the day to maintain interest and participation

About GIF Annual event that benefits the local chapter of Project Teacher August 2015 was the inaugural event with 78 participants and 29 game check-outs BPL participated as a game library, loaning games for attendees to play and managed the Game It Forward game library April 2016 was expanded into 2 days and saw a significant increase in attendance (186 participants) and game checkouts (130 check-outs) The 2017 event will be moved to a larger facility
