Team Formation - Tryout Process In conjunction with Cantera Futbol Northport Cow Harbor United Soccer Club Team Formation - Tryout Process In conjunction with Cantera Futbol
Introduction Together with Cantera Futbol , the Northport Cow Harbor United Soccer Club works very hard to place players on developmentally appropriate travel teams. We are constantly striving to improve the tryout process, while always working to ensure that all players have the best opportunity for development.
Selection Process Objectives: To place kids in a safe and non-stressful environment so they can perform at their best. Each player is evaluated on 4 basic categories: Tactical, Technical, Attitude and Physical. Players will be judged on the year's training (ideally 40 sessions). Player evaluation and placement are based on a body of work rather than a two day tryout evaluation.
Tryout Process The placement evaluation is based on Technique, Tactics, Physical, and Attitude. The coaches look for application inside the training sessions in terms of decision making through game related scenarios. This method of talent identification gives coaches the ability to see the player's progress over a longer period of time. Goalkeepers are evaluated inside their position specific training with a Goalkeeper Director and are evaluated inside the session-game related situations. Evaluating players in their natural training environment will give coaches a clear picture of their players strengths and weaknesses.
Notes On Overall Tryout Process Parents: during the season coaches are not permitted to discuss player ranking. Therefore, parents must refrain from contacting coaches. Parents are free to contact coaches about individual player evaluations and ways for the player to improve. Parents: please do not call coaches regarding player placement before or after postings are announced. If there is an issue with placement, please contact your Age Group Leader after the posting of results.
Dates/Location The evaluation process is conducted inside the youth pool training environment on the normal Monday or Tuesday schedule. This allows players to relax in a comfortable environment and give their best effort. Open tryout days for out of club players: May 6/13/20 & June 3/10: Monday Age groups. May 7/14/21 & June 4/11: Tuesday Age groups. May 9/16/23/30 and June 6/13: Thursday Age groups. Teams will be announced after the last league game.
Final Roster Formation Once rosters are formed, the Cantera Coaching Director and Age Group Leaders will review team selections with NCHU Age Group Administrators for their input before finalizing rosters for the following season. Players playing up an age group is determined solely by Cantera Futbol Coaching Director. NCHU Age Group Administrators review the final selection process with Cantera Futbol. Final rosters will be posted on the NCHU website after the Spring Travel season concludes. Players have 24 hours to accept their assignment. If a player does not accept within that time period then the next player will be invited to join that team. Major discrepancies not resolved by Age Group Administrators and Cantera will be reviewed by the entire NCHU board in conjunction with relevant coaches and Cantera trainers.
